Hello folks,

I am a new Chrome user, and I find that any picture right click saved by Chrome can't be opend by any third party program on my PC.

When I use Irfanview(all the plugin installed) to do the work,it tells me that all the .jpg or .gif file I saved is a webp file ,and it will rename it for me,after the rename Irfanview still can't open it correctly,it's just a blank.

Then I try to online convert the files,no,still don't work.None of the online convert website can read the file I saved.

Then I googled this problem,I find this,(https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/xbaiOGjGdKk)  Codec downloaded, installed, sample opened no problem. Then I went to open the file that I saved, still don't work...

But One thing I can confirm, the file that I saved ,CAN be opened properly by Chrome itself.

What gone wrong? How can I fix this?

Sorry for the english, not a native english speaker.

This is the wrong group. webp-discuss might be better. Note that websites decide whether they use WebP or not. Chrome does not convert images to WebP when you save them.

Thanks for the info, will post in that group.

When I use IE or third party browser (chrome based),I do get the exact .jpg or .gif, only when I use chrome it convert to webp, and the link of the picture changed.
Like this one

The two pictures are the same, one is .gif, and other one is a .gif using webp code, and this file is only readable by Chrome.

Many websites sniff the User-Agent as well as the Accept headers in order to return a different format for the same URL, so that does not surprise me.
Anyway, webp-discuss might be able to help you with the codec issue, not with the fact that Chrome downloads the WebP version (only the website can do something about that).
