Hi,

I've been getting a lot of "Timed out errors" on GC:

"We timed out waiting for your server at https://xxxxx.com/store/googlecheckout/responsehandler.php
-- the error we got is: Read timed out Your server must respond faster
to merchant calculation callback requests."

I've just spend hours reading previous posts about it (both on this
forum and zen cart's) and I did everything that was suggested without
any results. Error doesnt happen all the time , but probably about 80%
of the time. I understand that the current "official" solution
recommended by Ropu is to use Google's Carrier Calculated Shipping.
That would be a fine solution, if i had any way to implement my "Free
Shipping" rules in those calculations (domestic free shipping for
orders above $200, and international free shipping for orders above
$1000). I haven't been able to figure out a way to do this anywhere
and GC just offers free shipping for everyone if my Free shipping
rules are setup in Zen Cart. Is there a way to set these rules on GC?

Part of the time out problem could be because im using GoDaddy - i've
read someone mentioning this on this forum. Can anyone confirm? if
that's the case, i will move my host (major pain).

Any other suggestions?

Thank you

Configuring ZC shipping for GC can be complex.

The GC mod for ZC development was not completed (funding cut-off),
soe ach and every possible ZC permutation is not supported, and config
and testing it is often trial and error.

Yes I've heard many issues with GoDaddy hosting (including for PayPal
and USPS mod support in ZC), Have never used GoDaddy hosting as I
learned early to avoid.

You may want to inquire more at the official Google Checkout support
site.

It appears the ZC Dev Team has a financial commitment to only support
PayPal and has no motivation to support Google Checkout payment
module.

So not sure what's going to happen when ZC is upgraded to v.1.4. I
suspect the current GC for ZC mod will not be functional in the new
version. I wish we could motivate Google or someone else to continue
development on the GC for ZC mod.

Google Checkout is working well with the Magneto dev team. Not that I
want to quit supporting Zen Cart but if my clients want/need Google
Checkout, and they do, switching to Magneto may be the only
alternative. If ZC and GC don't generate a relationship soon then
there is a survival issue here.

Hi Woodymon,

Thanks for a quick reply. This is very sad news. Do you have any
suggestions?
How can we convince Google to support this?

Maybe people on the zen cart forum are willing to pay for this? and we
can hire someone to write a new version with the road map described in
your post here:

http://groups.google.com/group/google-checkout-for-zen-cart-mod-support/browse_thread/thread/d4a0c2ed16e53729

There are probably hundreds of zen cart shops wanting to use GC, im
sure they will pay $20 donation to get this road map accomplished. For
someone who knows ZC well and has some GC familiarity, it should be
too tough to do..im considering messing with it myself (at least to
fix my current problem). What do you think?

Hi,

Regarding the timeout problems I used to have quite a lot of those
problems as well. Google needs a response within 3 seconds from the
server. Otherwise it uses the default shipping prices. Solution:
change hosting provider. Not only Google Checkout works now but the
store goes much more quicker and smooth.

Regarding the future, there are a lot of bright people between the zen
cart users able to modify the google checkout code for 1.4 so I would
not see that as a problem.

Cheers,

Ed.

after digging around for a solution to free shipping problem, i
decided to hack it myself:

https://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=656204
it works well..

and i definitely have to change the host as soon as i get a chance..

Ed, which one are you using now?

Thanks
