If anyone here is interesting in helping with funding (or otherwise
assisting) with the continued development of the Google Checkout Mod
for Zen Cart, please reply to this posting.

Priority is updating the mod so it runs with Zen Cart 2.0x. Funding
continued ongoing maintenance to support changes in both Zen Cart and
Google Checkout services as well as bugfixes is a secondary goal.
Adding additional features and bells & whistles could be included but
not top priority.

I also posted above announce to the ZC Support forum:

If I receive feedback or hear anything I will post.

We would definitely be interested in funding a project like. I cannot
imagine our business without GCO.

My posting to the big GC thread in ZC forum appears to be have deleted
by the ZC team without any notification or announcement. I know it was
posted as at least one person followed up to the posting via PM.

So it appears the ZC team is continuing to resist supporting GC
merchants. I suspect some team members relationship with PayPal is
overriding the needs/desires of small ZC merchants. And I suspect this
is exactly why Google pulled funding of the the GC mod development.

But no one wants to post their true intentions (zc team, google,
previous mod developers) and small merchants are caught in the middle.

Ropu responded and stated he is on another project but could refer us
to another developer. I suspect he was previously burnt by a lack of
support from the ZC team as well, and does not want to go there again.
Don't blame him.

As others have suggested as well, we may need to approach Google
directly for support. But first we need a group strategy.

So if you want to assist with putting together a group strategy on
regarding continued ZC mod development please post or contact me.

I was going to offer to help, because I liked using Google Checkout.
However, I will warn you that GC just announced today that they are
raising their rates, and getting rid of the AdWords credit. The rates
are now the same as PayPal (at least for a business of my size)

Just a warning. I am in the process of switching over to PayPal right
now.

I would hope that Google Checkout would want this business - and I
think they need to be approached. Currently I am about to get rid of
Google Checkout due to trouble I am having with their module, and I
really want to give them the business.

I would be glad to try and help in coding, if there is anything I
could do.

Same here - we've had to drop it for various reasons, but the amount of use it was getting was 80/20 in favour of GC/Paypal.
People just prefer Google Checkout - in fact, since we removed it, lots of people would rather phone their order in than use Paypal. Don't know why.

Thousands use Zen Cart, (although I don't quite believe the 180,000,000 results when you Google for "Powered By Zen Cart"!)
Google has $billions, surely SOMEONE at Google could find a few dollars to support this payment gateway?

This list at http://code.google.com/p/google-checkout-zencart/issues/list has 40 new defects/requests, only 2 of which have been accepted.

Even the Google Checkout API blog hasn't been updated since 2007! http://googlecheckoutapi.blogspot.com/

It's almost impossible to find any way of contacting Google, in fact, attempting to post a suggestion to the Checkout Integration Suggestions Page at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/checkout-merchants/label?lid=0adf57675dab8f9d results in

"Part of this page is hidden according to the Terms of Service" - whatever that means.

Hopefully you can take a moment to add your voice to the conversation.
