Google chart animation causes legend to flash

Hello,

When doing long animations on a chart it causes the legend to disappear or flash when doing short animations. 

I understand that the legend needs to be rebuilt to display the information but can it not be done the same way as the x axis labels?

We made a change that will be in the upcoming release (now available in 1.1) such that the legend is not animated, but will be hidden instead during the animation.  The legend animations were sometimes useful if you change what is shown in the legend, but otherwise not.

By the way, you will also be able to animate changes in the chart size and chart area, which used to simply disable animation.

Apologies for the late reply, is there any way to disable the 'hiding' functionality and rather just show the legend animation? I am currently using 1.1 which is the reason why the legend disappears for the duration of the animation which is incredibly frustrating.

The general problem is that the whole chart, including the legend, is erased and redrawn at each step of the animation.  So if any part of the display is to not flash, it must be redrawn correctly at each stage of the animation.  Animating the legend changes seemed fairly pointless relative to other things, and it got more problematic when I enabled the animation of the chart size changes, which I believe is more valuable.   Same with the title and axis titles.  

I can restore animation of the legend and titles under more constraints to avoid the complications, but I am not sure this will make it for the next release.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for responding. Do you know if anything pertaining to the legend disappearing during animation has changed? The animation is a very nice touch but after complete, the legend just sort of pops out of nowhere, not very gracefully.

Sorry Kevin. We haven't done any work on reenabling the legend animation.  Not sure when we will be able to get to it.
