Dear Ambassadors,

As much as we are convinced that all our ambassadors have a great IQ,
use this opportunity to convince us that your GQ (yes, Google
Quotient) is high too!

Please find below a few questions about Google, that we have put
together. They are basic, relatively easy, and shouldn’t take more
than 15 minutes of your time. The first person who writes back to
shr...@google.com before 2nd Feb ’09, with all the right answers will
be declared the winner. The winner will be rewarded with a Google
goody bag!

Also, just for the record, please don’t post your replies on the
group.

Questions (Quiz- January ‘09)

1. The name Google is derived from a mathematical term, “Googol”.
What does “Googol” stand for and who coined the term?

2. What was the search engine originally nicknamed as?

3. Andy Bechtolsheim was one of the initial fund providers for Google,
paying a sum of US $ 100,000. He is the co-founder of which famous
company?

4. What are the two arms of Google’s main revenue generating
advertising division?

5. Who is the CEO of Google?

6. What is the name of the ranking system on which Google’s search
results are dependant?

7. Google has acquired quite a few companies over the past few years
and rebranded them as major internet products. One such product was
Pyra Labs. How do we know that today?

8. With which of Time Warner brand did Google associate its
advertising program to provide search and advertising?

9. When Google started with Google Groups, they took over all the then
existing archives of which user group site?

10. What is Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California,
referred to as?

We will post the winner this month’s quiz on the Google Group by 6th
Feb ’09.

We look forward to an enthusiastic response!

Best Regards,

People Operations Team
Google India

I do believe one of your answers is incorrect, Akshay. A little more research + a careful reading of the question?

Hi All,

I am yet to receive correct answers to all the questions.

We can expect a new quiz next month. Hopefully no one will hit the
'reply all' :)

Best of luck.

hmm no one with all the correct answers? Thats strange. I think Aditya
was pretty close.

And ya it would be great if you can inform us of the time for the quiz
next month before hand because it puts the person who sees the quiz
first at a clear advantage.

My pleasure Radhika.

I am doubtful on one of the questions , the answer to which does not seem
very apt. But dont know what are the true answers myself.

Anyone else has submitted answers yet (apart from Aditya and me)?

No, there really isn't much else... AW and AS are the only feasible ones afaik... It's the Time Warner one

Akshay Jain

hmm the timewarner one is pretty sure AOL only. This is because there
are hardly many companies which google has agreement with to provide
"search and advertising"

Moreover, if you search anything on AOL , then you will see "enhanced
by Google" logo. So that means that the answer to that one is
definately correct.

The answer to the revenue generation could be wrong because Adsense
"advertisers" use Adwords only. So its like, the revenue is generated
from Adwords for ads which can then be displayed by the Google search
results or the Publishers of adsense. So, I dont think they are two
different arms as such. They are more inter-related than they are
seperate. At max, the two arms could be "Search engine advertisements"
and "Adsense advertisements" but such a classification is not a very
popular one.

Lets wait for the answers.

Hi Akshay,

We really want everyone to be active on the group, that's the very purpose of forming the group.

The winner would, however, will be the one who responds first with all correct answers.

Between, Aditya was certainly close :)

Good luck to all.
