Duplicate entries being synced

I have noticed that with my sync from Gapps to Exchange that there are
many entries that are being replicated multiple times. It's not very
consistent but certain items (not all) are being synced across to
Exchange calendars as placeholder entries multiple times.
I am using the sync service with the Appointment writer option to
replicate pilot user calendar info back to Exchange mailboxes to show
free/busy info for non-pilot users.
What could be causing this?
