Question from Quora:

Why are tech-bloggers so bent on discrediting Google Buzz, while overlooking bigger social flops like Apple's Ping?

Be sure to voice your opinion if you're on Quora!

I am getting a 503 error on Quora right now.

Why does the RSS is dead topic keep poking it's head back up? Why is the Nexus S going to kill the iPhone? Discrediting Buzz generates clicks right now, it generates comments from fans and enemies of Buzz. Thats what the tech blogs want. One good controversial post can mean 1000's of clicks and likely means a follow up post with 1000's more clicks. The important thing to remember though is that a) my mom does not read Techcrunch or any other tech blog and b) she has never seen a Follow us on Buzz icon on anything (I am talking about TV here). The Buzz community needs to get common internet users to use Buzz in order to increase visibility. Big names are going to read Techcrunch and others and not get on Buzz. Buzz will only grow through a grass roots effort.

I hate to say it, but getting Buzz out of Gmail (or at least a second non-gmail interface) might be the solution needed. Many of my friends are Yahoo mail users, and they are not switching. Buzz is dead to them as long as it is in Gmail.

Isn't it obvious? Tech bloggers are opinion makers. The articles they write must present an ultimate truth that their disciples can then share and spread.

Imagine you do that on a platform like Buzz that is created for *discussions*. Suddenly, there's objection. Discussion. Perhaps even facts opposing their opinion. What a desaster!

No. Tech bloggers prefer to blare into the void.

Now someone form that into an answer on Quora and I'll vote it up. :D
