Let's brainstorm to find ways to combat the negativity about Buzz!

List your suggestions.......

Not sure I know how to stop it at this point. I'll give it some
thought but I am finding Facebook a much nicer place to play. Google
has all but abandoned support here and this place i a free-for-all.
Too many people like Adam and company make it almost a place I want to
stay away from.
They need some moderators here.

Ah, you saw that on Facebook Bob. I was just playing around with my FB app and tried out places for the first time.

As for Buzz, I don't think anyone can convince the Silicone Valley media to change their minds about it. I have been reading the "top 10 2010 tech failures" lists  that have been popping up all over and see Buzz listed on most of them. The reason they give for the reason is for the state Buzz was on their first weekend.  It is obvious that most have not checked out Buzz lately and they won't bother to do so. I am sure that Buzz is ancient history to most of the media who cover tech. Plus is it currently a trend to bash Google about anything right now.

I have had my fears about Buzz lately. Google does seem to be slow on it's feet doing anything with it. I never thought it could go the way of wave but I am beginning to wonder now.

As for me, I do prefer Buzz over Facebook for several reasons, but as Bob said, Facebook is a lot more civil. I did jump into one thing once and it was my fault for doing so. I jumped into a pack of wolves and shouldn't have. But for the most part I can control the threads of conversation there. However the discussion is not nearly as interesting as it is here on Buzz. Plus, since my family are friends of mine on Facebook I tend to be more conservative there. I do hope Buzz has a future and maybe Google can find someone to work for them who excels at integrating all the social aspects of Google into once clean interface.

Yeah they are not being proactive at all promoting or even talking
about it. I notice even the regular Googlers on BUZZ have tapered
off.

well with FB, you control it all so if it gets out of hand, you just
get rid of them. It is a far more civil way but much less
intellectual means of communicating.

Chris Lang just brought up a good point. Google hasn't even come out with a Buzz app for the Chrome OS store. I get more updates about Google from the reader or by following their different components on Facebook !

Yes, I think that how Google itself disses Buzz really tells it all.

Well, FB is the place to be right now. Especially if you are anticipating an IPO anytime soon.

So is there anything we can do as a community? I like Buzz much better then FB and only go there to see what the clicks from high school or family are doing. The intellectual conversations and the updates from others around the world is so much better.

Any ideas how we can make them aware of how great this is and to put more effort into Buzz? Like Jeff said on Buzz earlier the updates and pictures coming from Buzz were better then the news could deliver.

Considering there has been no activity in the last several months from the Buzz Beta team, I think it would be up to the community to improve the Buzz experience. I wish I had the coding language that people like Andrew does, but I don't. As far as making the media aware of how great Buzz is, I think that is a lost cause. Google needs to step up on that one.

Well, we can find out where all those negative-on-buzz people live and then... (wait, isn't this the buzz activist room?)
oh? no? -- well, we should send them nasty notes with a list of the top reasons why Buzzers like Buzz.

Well, the way that Buzz has been acting up in the last week or so, I don't think we would want to bring it to the attention of anyone. It is breaking down fast. I know the team is working on it, but all seems to be falling apart. Not just one problem. So..it is up to Google to fix it fast. If this was twitter or FB, the problems would be broadcast all over the place and the problems would be fixed ASAP. Yes..I am ranting...LOL.

Show them (the bloggers), that if they have profiles on buzz but just mirror their tweets but bitch about buzz, it is a lack of respect and a bad attitude, that they have no right to judge about Buzz if they are part of the problem. I ranted lately because of such an.... bad word ... asshole. Complaining about buzz and being part of the problem... no-go.

Thanks Stephie :D We are creating quality content on buzz... The problem is, most tech bloggers don't understand the concept of buzz, because they see it as some kind of "Twitter-thingie".. But per design you can already see, that it never was meant to be something like that... They just have completely wrong expectations if they expect something like facebook or twitter... and then they are disappointed and rant. But in reality, they are just too stubborn to get it. Buzz isn't a tool for lifestyle-nazis like twitter... techcrunch and co have to realize that some day...

Florian, you hit the nail on the head. There are many tech bloggers that don't understand nor do they appreciate the difference that Google Buzz can bring. By focusing a little more on what we can "appreciate" with Google Buzz, this will help us to create more positive content for folks to read in the near future. If you ask me a community should have as many positive resources as possible. Otherwise folks will not feel welcome, and they won't have any desire to participate in various discussions.

I gather that a negative comment was deleted from this discussion thread. The appropriate action was applied. I don't think that it's too much to ask for to ask folks to have something positive to contribute to a particular discussion. Last time I checked, there are NO fringe benefits for griping and complaining about anything.

Stephie I agree with you. Years ago a College Professor at Montgomery College was told us that some techies may not have the best "Communication Skills." To focus on "the positive," I like the fact that Google Buzz is designed to challenge us to get involved in a series of conversations, rather than spitting out a few "sound bites" like you said. In the Google Buzz Community, @Linda Lawrey is one of my heroes and one of my favorite persons to follow. Her content is known to attract thought dialog amongst strangers across the globe.
