I am a guy that wants to do everything at one place, and Google looks
like a fantastic destination for me. I do enjoy Gmail, Google
Calendar, Google Maps, etc, but this Google Bookmarks forces me back
to "Yahoo Bookmarks".

I understand Google is excellent in searching, and "Tags" is such a
wonderful invention for organizing small number of items, but it is so
difficult to manage over 1000 items under this flat structure.

It is true that "Folders/Subfolders" hierarchy is not "fancy/sexy"
enough, but it works well for many people, and I believe more people
would prefer to access their bookmarks through this hierarchy if we
could have a poll here. Bookmark items are like my friends, and 99% of
the time, I can locate them very quickly, but I don't want to go
through "Tags" 99% of the time, which actually slows me down.

Another weakness of the "Tags" system is: It is order-less.
"Category1"/"Category2" in real life is not equal to
"Category2"/"Category1". It is so clear in the old-fashion
hierarchical structure, but hard to differentiate under the "Tags"
system.

I am not against the "Tags", but just want to suggest a marriage
between "Tags" and "Folder", just like what "Yahoo Bookmarks" has
done.

Google is such an innovative Internet giant with so many talented
people. But please, don't leave "old-fashioned" people (like me,
using the Internet for over 10 years) too much behind, :). After all,
we are not the minority of the internet users.

Regards,

Benben

If you want hierarchical tags in Google Bookmarks you can try my
GMarks extension, but I doubt the actual website will get changed

I too enjoy being able to do almost everything through Google. I love
this cloud computing concept, of which Google is a leader. I use
iGoogle to access EVERYTHING. I even made my own gadget. But this
flat structure for organizing bookmarks is frustrating.

Google Bookmarks is integrated into the browser toolbar and your
iGoogle account. So wether you're surfing at home or at work you can
instantly add pages to your bookmarks.

Personally, I use the iGoogle Bookmarks gadget mostly. This way I
have access to my bookmarks @ home & work. But the flat structure
makes it a nightmare trying to keep your links organized. I'm forced
to create sub-categories in the bookmark name.

I've since signed up for and use the Lynx gadget which allows for the
typical tree folder structure people are used to. However, it uses
it's own seperate interface.

How is that this Lynx site can offer a free and effective service
while Google does nothing? I REALLY hope that they add even a limited
folder structure (max of 4 folders deep) before this tool graduates
from Labs.

I agree. I have so many labels that I have to scroll. Many of the
labels can be organized and grouped into sublabels/subfolders. Please
google, get this done!

Hi all,

I 100% agree with you !

It's a long time nox since I go around the google groups to ask for
nested bookmarks (nested labels, sub folders, whatever we call it).
It is really strange why Google still does not implement this feature
(very simple feature I think !)
I love all Google stuff too but what about nested bookmarks !
Every body is waiting for it.

I use both IE and Firefox so I don't want to use GMarks

Agree to have integrated services, as Google is offering.
In my opinion, Google team should maybe consider negociate to get
Simpy as bookmarks service (better than Delicious, that Google wanted
to obtain).
