I have tried using the blogger2wordpress converted a dozen different
times today but it just keeps trying to connect. Am I doing something
wrong? I spent all this money for a new domain and other stuff and now
it will do me no good if I can't import my blog. Please help me

Wordpress automatically supports importing blogger. Use the built in
features.

Hi Rita,

Are you using the blogger2wordpress command line tooling, or the blogger2wordpress.appspot.com hosted version?

How large is your export file?

Sigh.

Read.

Wordpress allows direct importing of a blogger exported backup.

Hi Rick,

I am the Blogger Developer Relations Engineer. Part of my job is supporting the tools that Rita is having issues with. In fact, I'm currently writing code at this very moment to improve the process for exporting Blogger content to WordPress.

And yes, I know full well that WordPress supports direct import of Blogger's export files. I helped the WP.com team debug some issues with their process earlier this year.

Amusing side note, the Codex entry you are pointing at includes a link to blogger2wordpress.appspot.com

That's all well and good....

But when the process is simplified and people are trying to keep
people on an outdated / archaic way 1 year behind when Wordpress is up
to date.... You are ice skating up hill.....

She simply exports her blogger, imports directly into wordpress.....
Not 4+ other steps in between....

And the side note, says "see also" which hasn't been updated for a
year. ;)

I can understand you supporting it, but Wordpress has already done
this....

It's like saying "use my 8 track player, it's still having features
added" while the rest of us are on DVD's.

;)

Sigh....Seriously Brett, how much troubleshooting do you do?

I'm looking at logics and realistic. You are looking at complicating
and turning this into a task.

If she does what I said, and there are still errors, we can "usually"
deduce that her blog has corruptions or other issues.. If it works, we
can deduce that the converter here is flawed and then diagnose that
further.

I've offered an alternative (which you claim you were a part of) so
unless you aren't confident in your work why keep blocking it and
trying to keep her here.

I created a vmware session, imported my current blogger into a new
wordpress install. 0 issues. 352 posts....using the built in wordpress
import.

Or you can continue to be a roadblock. This is getting ridiculous.....

I'm curious how asking what Rita is doing constitutes being a roadblock.

I tried the direct importing and kept an error message saying my site was not registered. I tried that first before I tried anything else. I even tried to import into a dummy WordPress.com blog but got the same thing as when using the hosted version of the converter it runs and runs never converting or uploading anything. I let run for almost an hour and got nothing.

Brett,

I was trying the hosted version.  I am new at all of this and not sure what the blogger2wordpress command line tooling is. I did try to use the WordPress Importer but I kept getting an error saying my site was not registered with Google. I Google how to register and then did the verify process through Google Apps. My export file is 28,000KB. I was much larger but I went into my Blogger blog and reverted my template back to classic to do away with all the bells and whistles.

Hey Rita,

I can see why the online tool was having an issue with converting your blog - it is too big for the current tool. I'm currently rewriting said tool to handle larger blogs, like yours.

In the mean time, I've converted your export file to the wordpress WXR file format, and I will mail it to you directly.

Hi Brett,

I am having the same issue. I have a blog at blogger.com and when I downloaded it in xml file, it is 22 MB. Now When I am trying to import it using self hosted wordpress, I keep getting the following error.

==========================
Error message :

The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows:

AuthSub target path prefix does not match the provided "next" URL.

============================

I tried blogger2wordpress tool but it does not help. At the end of 98% upload, it shows some error message each time. Please help.

I'm not aware of how the WordPress self hosted import tooling works. I suggest you ask the WordPress help forums for support on this approach.

When you say you are using the blogger2wordpress tool, are you talking about the blogger2wordpress.appspot.com web application, or the pythong command line application?

I've the same problem. In web tool i've got an error, (probably file
too long?! 20M). In python comand line, i've got several errors like
"No module named elementtree".

How can I solve it?

The Import in Wordpress only imports half of my posts :(

thanks
