New issue 227 by tylers...@gmail.com: Cannot interpret QR code error on load
http://code.google.com/p/google-authenticator/issues/detail?id=227

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install Authenticator
2. Setup an account by scanning QR code
3. Accidentally select Barcode Scanner app to read the QR code when
prompted (not Googles)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected this not to work because I didn't use the Googles app. Restarted
program and selected the Google app and account linked...however now
everytime I open the app I get the Cannot interpret QR code error before
the app shows my keys.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.33 on stock Bionic ICS

Please provide any additional information below.
Tried uninstalling and re-installing, clearing cache, clearing data --
nothing makes the error go away.

In step 2, did you originally get a prompt to choose a barcode scanner to
use? If so, did you choose to use it by default (i.e., without prompting
again)? If so, perhaps that barcode scanner app is faulty. Unfortunately,
your Android now remembered that you'd like to use that app whenever an app
(not just Google Authenticator) needs a barcode scanner.

You can revert your "use by default" choice by going into System settings
-> Apps -> <the faulty barcode scanner app> -> Clear defaults. Once that's
done, scanning a QR code from Google Authenticator should start prompting
you to choose a scanner again.

Two more alternatives (but the above is preferred):
* Uninstall the faulty barcode scanner, OR
* Fire up a working barcode scanner, scan the account setup QR code for
Google Authenticator, and then let that barcode scanner launch Google
Authenticator instead.

I didn't select to always use the wrong barcode scanner app, so I was able
to re-do it with the correct barcode scanner app and it works. The problem
is that every time I load, I still get the "Cannot interpret QR code" error
(which I click past to use the app). I did try uninstalling the barcode
scanner app, and that didn't work.

Regarding "every time I load", how do you "load" Google Authenticator? Are
you tapping on its icon on the home screen or are you using Recent Apps
feature (usually activated through the Home key)? If it's the latter, try
launching the app once via the home/apps screen icon/shortcut.

It's the through app drawer...had reset my phone to see if that made a
difference anyways, though no luck. Truth be told, it's really more of an
annoyance to have to click past the error every time...the app itself works
fine once I clear the error.

Comment #5 on issue 227 by klyu...@google.com: Cannot interpret QR code
I'm not familiar with "app drawer" -- I presume it a non-standard launcher
or some sorts. In that case, I'd suggest filing this as bug against "app
drawer". From what you've said so far, it sounds like "app drawer" is
launching Google Authenticator using a wrong Intent -- the one that it
usually gets when a Barcode Scanner has just scanned a URL that can be
handled by Google Authenticator, rather than the default Intent for the
app. Perhaps there's a way to configure in "app drawer" how to launch
Google Authenticator. Have a look at those settings/options...

Sorry, I marked this as WontFix by mistake. Reopening... Would you please
confirm what you mean with "app drawer": is it an custom launcher app or
the built-in screens that display icons of all apps installed?

I mean the built-in screens that display icons of all the apps installed.
