I am missing universal find/replace, multiple tabs and correct AppScript Color Extension functionality.  GAS development is so painful now.

Do you think if we ask nicely the devs will let us have it back? 🥺

Well, I do agree with the missing "universal find/replace" and having the tabs open where you can see them (like VSCode) but I do have to say that I don't want to go back.  I am getting use to all the other tools we do have now.  Ben Collins did a great job of listing them all out.  You can check it out here: https://www.benlcollins.com/apps-script/google-apps-script-ide/

NOW, what I hope is that since Google DID "improve" the IDE, hopefully soon they "improve" it some more and it will be more like VSCode. Seeing how long it took them to get this update I would say we only have about 6 years to wait.....😁

I agree the new features are nice.  However, I find the features that were lost were far more critical to getting work done.

Yes, as a self proclaimed "intermediate" Google Apps Script developer I understand what you are saying.  I have been trying to learn VSCode but 99% of all my work I really need to be "cloud based".  I can find myself in one school in the morning then off to another district in the afternoon.  I have become "device agnostic" since "almost" everything I need to use is web based all I need is internet connection and a Chrome browser.  Soooooo.... I have tried to get Gitpod or Codespaces working because these would solve my problem AND provide me with a more "powerful" IDE.  HOWEVER, it appears the "clasp" utility needed to login, push and pull code to GAS is broken now due to Google's change in authentication.  I hope they find a solution because like you, I miss universal find and replace as well as having "tabs" open.

Michael,
I am self proclaimed also. I enjoy GAS as well. I am experimenting with Python connection to a Google Spreadsheet via Google Drive and Google sheets api. Python is cross platform and can be integrated into web and standalone installable desk top applications with Internet access. In this, you can truly treat Google Sheets as a backend database connected via a python desktop application. I'm finding that Python is used in just about everything.

Anyway...just thought I'd mention that.

Cheers
Keith

Keith - excellent idea of using Python... I have "dabbled" in it's use but never anything serious.  Maybe it is time to look at it again.

Do you happen to have any examples of solutions you have created that you would be willing to share?  And it sounds like you use a web based IDE, do  you mind sharing what you use?

Michael,
Have a look at this shirt video.

For Python projects I use pyCharm code editor on my Linux machine (mxlinux distro)

When I finish my project I will certainly reach out to you and share it.

Python is way easier than JavaScript and more versatile.

Cheers -

Hi,

AppScript Color Extension has been updated to v1.5 a few days ago and should work perfectly well with the new IDE:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/appsscript-color/ciggahcpieccaejjdpkllokejakhkome?hl=en

If you still have issues with this extension, please report them here:
https://github.com/JeanRemiDelteil/appsScriptColor/issues

Regarding universal find/replace, you need this other Chrome extension - Black Apps Script:
It works perfectly well!

Note that you might not need both extensions (Black Apps Script also provides several themes).

OK, now that we have some people looking at Black Apps script I have a question: how do I "customize" it?  I specifically want to add the "bracketPairColorization" option.

Anybody have a quick tutorial on how to add "custom options"?

You can watch their video explaining how to edit more Monaco settings via the Chrome extension (through the "custom options" button):

Though there seems to be a bug at the moment with bracketPairColorization on Monaco.

Hi Romain, thanks for the link but what I need is an example of what to put in the custom options window.  For example I want to get the "bracketPairColorization" to work so I have tried this in the options window but it doesn't seem to work:
{
"editor.bracketPairColorization.enabled": true,
"independentColorPoolPerBracketType.enabled": true
}

So either have the wrong properties or the wrong format or both or ...

If you have an example of an option that you added that is working I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!
