Google dropped this bombshell earlier today...I suppose in light of their recent acquisition of Apps Sheet this is probably a good move for them strategically...

I'm glad I didn't invest too heavily in the platform but I really liked its Material Design based widgets. Any thoughts on any possible fallout from this?

Here are my thoughts. At least the data can be kept and swap out the front-end and back-end. Google's blog thankfully listed some transitions and alternatives. From my SW gApps company perspective, this is an opportunity to help others with the transition. In other words, we can perform a Solution Architect role to determine if gForms, AppSheet, Apps Script webapp, or App Engine solution is best for the client's use case.

James Ferreira who established App Maker University and is now a Googler will most likely share his thoughts during the "G Suite Training and Automation" conference on FEB 20-21 because he is one of the speakers. BTW, the online (remote) early bird discount ends FEB 1st  -- GSuiteFlorida.com

We've not had one of these bombshells for a while - ScriptDB is the first that comes to mind.

Gotta feel for all those people who've created elaborate Apps with it :(

RIP App Maker  :)

Google should buy Salesforce and substitute the apex for google script!

Add-ons in Salesforce!  :D

I believe that the Add-on business model will still undergo changes. If you have an SDK, there will always be changes, and sudden.
Knowledge is not lost, but time is complicated. We are finite. :(

Sorry for my english.

I wonder if there are any implications for apps script?  Have just spent a few weeks making something about to be deployed for users so hopefully it will be supported for a long time!

10 years in GAS. It's not simple to kill it fast.

What would this community recommend as a replacement for Google App Maker. I am looking for a solution that is within G Suite even if its not a low code solution.
My use case is an Application Tracking System for use within the company.

I would really appreciate some recommendations.

Since you seem to be looking for a row/record bases tracking app, you might find Appsheet does the job quite easily. Depends on the number of users and the detailed use case. Maybe take a look at some or the demo apps to see if it fits?

This is a shame. I think there could have been some really good uses for this app. Google shot themselves in the foot on this one by tying it directly to CloudSQL which costs money. If was easier to use for free from the start I think there would have been more people trying it out and creating examples.

Google Cloud SQL was an acceptable requirement, which opened the door to the knowledge of the GCP in many cases.
Killing AppMaker like this... no words...

I believe AppSheet has been purchased by Google.  Is there any guarantee that Google won't just shut down AppSheet as well?
I would be interested in trying the product if Google would offer a time-based guarantee of support.
Maybe 12 months at a minimum.  Without that guarantee, taking time to learn and implement a Google product, that resembles closely AppMaker, seems unwise.

Those guys didn't waste any time taking advantage of the situation (though given that AppMaker wasn't widely adopted I don't see them making that big of an impact). Google should have probably waited another year to get AppsSheet fully integrated and provide clear paths to migration before announcing the deprecation of AppMaker.
