Hi,

I'm just wondering if the Google App Scripts team is planning on updating the Shopping Content Service to use the latest version (v2.1) of the Content API for Shopping before the current version (v2.0) is deprecated?

Thanks,
James

All requests made against v2 of the Content API will fail after March 29, 2021.
That's in 4 days.
I was going to tell you that deprecating something before making the alternative available isn't the way that Google does things.
But, it's not looking very good is it?
Today's the 25th, and v2 Content API requests will start failing after March 29th.
You could switch to the REST API instead of using the advanced service.
I don't know how bad the affects are going to be for you if everything stops working in a few days.
To use the REST API, you'll need to use:
UrlFetchApp.fetch(url)
to make the request.
V2.1 doesn't show up in the drop down list as being available for the Content API for shopping.
It doesn't show up in the new code editor either.
If someone with a contact at Google sees this and can alert them of the pending disaster, that would be good.

Thanks, I appreciate the response.

Do you know of any other way of contacting the Google App Scripts team?

I have also tried contacting the "Content API for Shopping" team about this, but have been told this is the responsibility of the Google App Scripts team and it seems that they do not monitor conversations in this community.

Sorry, I don't know how to contact a real person on the Apps Script team.
You could create a new issue on the Issue Tracker.
Make sure it's in the:
Public Trackers -> Google Workspace Developers -> Apps Script category

Thanks for your help.

I created an issue as suggested, here was their response:

"Hello,

You should migrate your code to the new v2.1 API to be safe. There is no ETA on implementation on the Apps Script side, but its an advanced service and if the underlying API is soon to be deprecated, it is likely that v2.0 will also stop working through Apps Script.

Kind regards,"

They seem surprisingly relaxed about this, I thought a google ads service would be given priority.

You've just experienced how pathetically incompetent the people are who evaluated your request to update the Shopping API from 2 to 2.1 in the Apps Script code editor.
This is the standard behavior that happens on the Google Issue Tracker for Apps Script.
The level of stupidity exhibited from from the people working on Apps Script bugs is shocking.
I don't know if there is any hope for Apps Script in the future as far as providing the best capability.
Apps Script works fine for many uses, but it can't be relied upon if you want high quality, up to date capability.
It's still the best thing "out there" for lots of things.
But, the acceptable standard that Google has set for Apps Script is quite low.
I have no idea what the problem is on the Apps Script team.
I don't know if they are underfunded, or managed poorly, or are just a bunch of idiots.
But this level of incompetency from the Apps Script team gives me no confidence in them.
I've added my comment to the issue at:
