Classic Sites App setTitle() breaks page gadgets

When we use .setTitle() on an existing page on for Google Sites (Classic), any gadgets on the page 'break', such as Apps Script Gadgets.

Can't figure out why this happens when it's possible to rename a Page Title at the user interface without seeing this adverse behaviour.

Any ideas appreciated.
