Trigger for Google Apps Script not functioning consistently for form submissions

Hi there,

I have a question regarding the trigger settings in Google Apps Script. I have set the event type to "On form submit" in the trigger configuration. Normally, when I submit a Google Form, the trigger works correctly and the associated script starts running. However, I have noticed that occasionally, even when I submit the form, the trigger fails to function, and the script doesn't start running.

I have verified that the trigger settings are correct, so I suspect that there might be some sort of communication error occurring. Could you please help me identify potential causes and provide some possible solutions for this issue?

Yep, it appeared today.

Want to add - no error or anything. The submission just never gets to the apps script piece. It seems to be the "OnFormSubmit" trigger itself that's broken.

Same to me. Starting yesterday. I tried to fix it temporary by renaming the function, then delete the onformsubmit trigger and re-schedule it again.  It worked a few times but then it didn't work again this morning.

I would like to ask everyone, how many responses are written in the spreadsheet that contains the answers to the Google Form?

The purpose of the question is to determine if there are any GAS scripts among several, specifically those that are not functioning properly if the number of responses exceeds 1500. Yesterday, there was an issue where only those scripts failed to run. Therefore, I would like to investigate if one of the conditions causing the problem is having more than 1000 responses.

Usually the responses are recorded in the spreadsheet very consistently even if the trigger fails to trigger or if your software has a bug causing it to fail to run.

 

Having the responses in the spreadsheet gives you an easier way to recover from any failures (i.e. rerunning it manually to do whatever action you need).

I had it too... 5+ rows in the Spreadsheet and no respective rows/errors in the Executions log.

The issue is not "being able to patch up things up" later, but even knowing that onFormSubmit didn't fire.

Yes, also noticed Google Form Triggers randomly failing to trigger over the last 24hrs. So nothing at all in the Execution log to show it even attempted to fire.

Somebody has created a bug on the Google Issue tracker - it would be worth people '+1' and add your comments to raise its visibility.
