Hello App Script Community,

I'm writing to bring your attention to an issue that many of us may be facing: unannounced changes to the Google App Script Card UI.

There's already a ticket open on Google's issue tracker regarding this matter (Issue #297900481). I've added my concerns to this ticket, focusing on the lack of communication and documentation for these changes. The absence of release notes and advanced warnings poses challenges for planning, risk mitigation, and user experience.

I encourage you to read the ticket and, if you share these concerns, to voice your support by starring the issue and adding your comments.

The more community backing we have, the more likely Google is to take prompt action.

Here are some key points to consider:

  • The absence of release notes undermines the credibility of Google's documentation and leaves us questioning whether the changes are intentional or a bug.

  • Without release notes, it is difficult to determine whether a change was intentional or indeed a bug. Alternatively, as I believe is the case with some recent changes, it could be an intentional change that has inadvertently caused a bug..

  • The lack of advanced warning is inconsistent with Google's previous communication strategies, such as the extensive notice given for the deprecation of the classic IDE.

Your support can make a difference. Together, we can encourage Google to improve their communication and documentation practices, benefiting us all.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Paul
