I was wondering why is there not a job market for Google Apps Script or Workspace Developers. Am I wasting my time here?

I admit that I am a freelancer who wants to develop add-ons for passive income more than work for someone. But common it doesn't hurt to be a part of a workforce to gather some experience.

Or is it because LinkedIn is the wrong place to search?

Thanks

I imagine that a lot of the Google Cloud partners that migrate people over to Workspace have their own people. But you are right - it's not often you will see a pure Google Apps Script advertised.

I do know CTS are looking for a "Collaboration Engineer" that has a large Apps Script element.

I did pretty damn well on Upwork as Google Apps Script dev. There is definitely a market (and a growing one too).

You're right that people might not search for "Google Apps Script" specifically.

Instead they'll post "Need to pull in API data to Google Sheets", or "Help automating document creation",  or "Want to streamline our inventory process", etc.

There are tons of businesses working on Google Workspace who need help automating their processes,  but don't know the exact technology they need. For many it's all "magic" anyways and they just care about the results. Which is why I talk about being an "Automation Consultant" versus a specific type of developer. Business owners understand that better and are drawn to the outcomes, not the process.

Hope that helps!

This is accurate @David

I had a recent thought of "Oh I need a GAS dev to help with our internal processes", but when I thought about what I really needed -- it wasn't a Google Apps Developer.
If you're looking for someone to build your house, you wouldn't post a job for a "hammer swinger".

Someone with an eye for effeciency, an understanding of the business needs, and the ability to quickly turn out a functional solution (that doesn't require a 20 page handbook to use) is what I actually wanted.
Google Apps Script is an awesome tool, and it would be very complimentary since my business runs on Google Apps, but I'm less enticed by someone with "Google Apps Developer" as their primary value-add.

If you focus on the problems that you're actually solving, you'll find more folks interested in what you have to offer.
A problem solver (or "automation consultant") who can use tools like Google App Script is something in higher demand.

P.S. -- don't google "Hammer Swinger"
