Counter button using check boxes in sheets

I'm searching to find answers to modify a created script by someone else:

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the logic or doing it wrong.
I changed the 'Counter Example' to my own Sheet name, modified the (0,14) to (0,5) to match my column. I tried to deleting the default function myFunction() as well as keep it in there but neither have worked. Perhaps it's because I inserted a table?

Also I'm wondering if it's possible to modifying this script to create more checkbox columns that adds value to other columns?
