i posted on https://support.google.com/docs/thread/160730284?hl=en and they suggested I might need Google Apps Script more than google sheets help. so I'm posting here to see about help/quotes to this done.

This is a personal project that works but i know could be streams lined. 

I've been using formula and multiple sheets because i can understand them once they are working and thus edit and maintain them.

Hi Michael (your name was on the G-support thread)..
If you are in the US, I would take a look at Google Tables (it is designed to be more of the workhorse you are looking for instead of a spreadsheet designed to work with number crunching, especially if you want as little scripting as possible.
Here is a video by Ben Collins (also a member of this group) where he shows where he converted a Sheet to a new Table.
