The growth of the GAS community is not merely steady; it is exponential. Between May 2024 and March 2026, the developer reach within this ecosystem nearly doubled. The number of identified GAS developers surged from 2,682 to 5,074 in less than two years—and as of August 2026, that number has climbed even higher to 5,736.
This surge signals a fundamental transition from "siloed" automation to a public-first development culture. Historically, Apps Script lived in the shadows, tucked away inside individual Sheets or Docs. Today, those scripts are coming into the light. Public repositories containing Apps Script grew from 5,138 to 8,756 by early 2026, while the discovery of appsscript.json manifests jumped from 7,299 to over 13,208 in the same period, eventually crossing the 14,000 mark.
