error pos email system

I have set up google email on my domain, I have configured outlook 07 per google instructions with positive results, however, when I put the settings into my Point of Sale system and test the email I get a failure message on both the pop and smtp.  I cannot email from POS without the connection and I do not know what I am doing incorrectly.
