Internally to my IT team,  we wondered if there way to restore a Google group if it were accidentally deleted with all its members (if static). Google Support told me this feature isn't possible. It is possible to use GAM?

While the chance of this happening is slim I understand the concern if there was a way to undo or prevent this from happening with GAM without some additional measures.

Thanks.

Steve

No. There is no API support for undeleting a group, thus GAM can't help.

We do not allow users to create groups.  We have a request system for this, and we make the requester the manager of the group, not the owner.  This stops groups from being deleted.  We occasionally have to review the admin panel reports for restoring member access to groups.  It works for us at least.

One thing you could do with GAM is to periodically (like with a cron job) back up the list of all of the members of all your groups using the command:

gam print groups members todrive

That wouldn't fully get the group back (as in you wouldn't be able to recover what things were shared with that group in Drive, for example), but at least you'd have a record of the group name and who was a member....

Cheers,

Ian
