Use GAM to add calendar by URL

Hi,

GAM is a great tool, thanks!

Question: does anyone know how to add an external calendar to an account using GAM?  Essentially, I'm trying to simulate the "Add by URL" function within the Calendar interface.

I reviewed this page...

     http://code.google.com/p/google-apps-manager/wiki/CalendarExamples

...but all the examples appear to be internally-managed Google calendars.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

• Add the calendar to one user's account via "Add by URL". Check the box for "Make the calendar publicly accessible?" when adding.
  
  
• Now go to the settings for that calendar and get the Calendar ID (which is a rather funky email address like udgtdt974efdsafo...@import.calendar.google.com).
  
  
• Use that address to add the calendar to other users with the GAM command:
  
  gam all users add calendar udgtdt974efdsafo...@import.calendar.google.com

Is this still the only way to subscribe to a calendar by URL?

I was hoping to script a heap of calendars specific to individuals but this looks as though I would have to add them all and then get the unique address and script it that way.

Is there any movement on this issue? 

I have over a thousand users, each with their own unique webcal:// that I'd like to automatically import into their calendars. The webcal:// is generated by an internal appointment system and is thus unique for each user. The method of "import once and share" doesn't apply.
