Adding a user Group to a folder and all subfolders

I took over for a previous IT guy and they have a folder with several thousand sub folders, with several hundred subfolders in each one.  For some reason they had restricted access to the root folder, and input each user individually.  With the change to the way google handled this, now I have new users that don't have access to several thousand of the sub folders.  

I'm trying to use GAM to add a user group for all my users at that location to be added to the root and all subfolders "recursive"?  from my understanding that can be done with GAM but I'm having problems with the actual command syntax. 

I do have all the authentication and everything set up for my workspace.
