Error updating custom schema for deleted and restored user

Hi all,

I'm 99% certain this is a Google bug and nothing specific to GAM, but wondering if anyone else has run into this and if you found any workarounds.

I use a custom schema to set exit and archive dates for users, which are part of my user offboard automation. It's rare, but sometimes a user will return within the 20 day window before their deleted user (sitting in the special Users>More options>Recently deleted users area of Google admin) is permanently deleted.

When that's happened, the instinct is to restore their user from there instead of creating a new one, but it seems you cannot update the users custom schema to (in my case) remove their previous exit and archive dates.

Trying to update any custom schema for a restored user results in a red banner at the bottom of the admin "Custom schema could not be updated". When trying via GAM, you get a "ERROR: 404: resourceNotFound - Does not exist".

Any help is appreciated!

I know this is a pretty old post, but I'm running into something very similar. Just restored a deleted user and trying to update a date that is within a custom schema. I'm getting the same errors as Ben did ... "Custom schema could not be updated" in the UI and "ERROR: 404: resourceNotFound - Does not exist" within GAM. My theory is that the account hasn't "fully restored" yet in Google and that maybe I'll be able to update those things if I give it a little patience ... but our script uses that date field to determine when an account needs to be deleted, so I'm afraid if I don't update it fast enough, it will get deleted again and we'll be back at square one. Ross or Ben, would you happen to remember how this was issue from almost two years ago was resolved?
