I am trying to change a Groups email address from one domain to another inside the same Google Apps interface.  From the Web view your not able to do this.  Is there a command through GAM that will allow me to do this?  I see that I can update information but not change the Group Email Address.  Any ideas??

Thanks

John

I would also like to be able to rename/change all of my groups (1100 of them) email addresses.  Has anyone found a script solution to this?
We are about to start a new academic year and we want to archive all of last years classes by prefixing the name and e-mail with zz12_groupname@ and then recreate all the new classes which have the same names as last year, just with different membership.  What we don't want is to loose everything we have done with last years groups.

Many thanks

Paul

Are you the Owner of the group? I've found that Admins cannot change
group e-mail addresses. I've already reported this issue to Google.

I am the domain admin, so I can set myself as the owner of the group
using gam. What I'm looking for is the command/a script to change the
group email address but I'm not sure it is currently available in the
api. I don't fancy changing 1100 addresses manually.

Hi Paul,

GAM cannot change the ID of the group once it's been created, the
documentation backs that up.

http://code.google.com/p/google-apps-manager/wiki/ExamplesProvisioning#Update_Group_Settings

This is based on the functionality not being exposed in the Google
Apps Provisioning API which GAM uses.

https://developers.google.com/google-apps/provisioning/#updating_a_group

The Google Groups Setting API doesn't expose the needed calls either.

Is this still the case?
I've create a group and made all the settings, and now I need to rename the group!

Is the only way to create a new group and delete the old one?

Many years later, seems this is still the case? No support for aliases either.

You can do this from the Admin Panel.  You can not do this from the Groups Management Console.
