I've managed to muddle my way through the Google Apps installation process.  I have script commands that use powershell and gam to auto create users and standard group types within our AD and google apps domain.  The following line works with GAM2.55 but not with GAM3.0:
PS C:\scripts\powershell> c:\gam\gam.exe create group gamtes...@domain.com name "GAM Test Group" description "Test: Group for testing" permission domain
Error: permission is not a valid setting for groups

Is the permission attribute no longer available with Gam 3.x?  I ran the same command without setting the default group permission without any issue:
PS C:\scripts\powershell> c:\gam\gam info group gamtes...@domain.com settings

Group Settings:
 name: GAM Test Group
 adminCreated: True
 directMembersCount: 0
 etag: "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
 id: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
 description: Test: Group for testing
 allowExternalMembers: false
 whoCanJoin: CAN_REQUEST_TO_JOIN
 whoCanViewMembership: ALL_MANAGERS_CAN_VIEW
 defaultMessageDenyNotificationText:
 includeInGlobalAddressList: true
 archiveOnly: false
 isArchived: false
 membersCanPostAsTheGroup: false
 allowWebPosting: true
 messageModerationLevel: MODERATE_NONE
 replyTo: REPLY_TO_IGNORE
 customReplyTo:
 sendMessageDenyNotification: false
 messageDisplayFont: DEFAULT_FONT

 whoCanInvite: ALL_MANAGERS_CAN_INVITE
 spamModerationLevel: MODERATE
 whoCanViewGroup: ALL_MEMBERS_CAN_VIEW
 showInGroupDirectory: false
 maxMessageBytes: 5M
 allowGoogleCommunication: false
Members:
Total 0 users in group

Is this a bug or just a change in the GAM upgrade?

Thanks for the link.  I rewrote my code to remove the permission and everything appears to be working.  It looks like a group is now created with "domain" permissions from Gam 2.x. The specific settings were in Gam 2.x as well, you just also had the option to start out with a pre-defined permission level instead of just "domain".

to GAM group
GAM 3 settings are here https://code.google.com/p/google-apps-manager/wiki/GAM3GroupSettings

Looks like Permission has been replaced by more specific settings
