Files migration from My Drive To Shared Drive

Hi all! I have an interesting task)

I have a user  whose MyDrive has a very tangled “spaghetti” folder structure — for example:

User (Owner) Folder  
   ↓  
   External User (Owner) Subfolder  
      ↓  
      Internal User (Owner) File

I need to migrate this entire structure from the user’s MyDrive to a Shared Drive.

My goal is to:

• Move all files/folders owned by the target user to the Shared Drive, preserving the folder structure

• For any files/folders not movable (e.g., owned by external users), create clones of these items owned by the target user, and place them in the corresponding locations in the structure

My question:
Is there a GAM command or workflow that allows:

1. Moving everything owned by the target user to a Shared Drive

2. Automatically cloning files that cannot be moved (due to ownership) into the same relative structure in the Shared Drive

If this is not possible as a single command, any suggestions for scripts or multi-step GAM processes to achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

As an alternative solution idea:

I personally have resolved exactly this sort of issue on my own MyDrive in the past couple of weeks with Folgo (https://Folgo.com). Folgo works remarkably well.

What it does is send the external user(s) requests that ask them for their authorization to let Folgo run a script as them to move their items into the shared drive, and then coordinates the move between all the various folder/file owners so that everything gets moved into the shared drive quite seamlessly. 

I’m not in any way affiliated with Folgo, just a satisfied customer. We’re in the process of readying it for roll-out on our campus.

David,

GAMADV-XTD3 is no longer supported; you should update to GAM7 which is a rebranded version of GAMSDV-XTD3.

Thanks a lot for suggesting folgo.com — I appreciate the option.
However, I’d really prefer to use a tool that I both trust and understand, so I’d like to stick with GAM. I’ve already upgraded to GAM7.

What I’d really like to clarify is: is it possible in GAM7 to perform a migration from MyDrive to Shared Drive with cloning for cases where the owner is an external user?

David, you mentioned you got this working in GAMADV-XTD3 and offered to share your code. Could you please share it? And do you know if your solution would also work with GAM7?
