Does GAM work on GA Free?

I'm trying to change the default sendas for each user 

Really what I want is to change for entire org

GA setup with domain1.com as primary domain

add domain2.com as alias domain.

All accounts (4) have us...@domain1.com as sending address 

I want all accounts to have us...@domain2.com as sending address

I tried this:
gam user loren sendas lo...@domain2.com "Loren Nason" default

But I get "Domain cannot use API"
I tripled checked that "enable provisioning api" is checked

during the initial setup of GAM i also did the OAuth 2.0 API Access portion as well

(technically I'm a newbie at this but I have a good grasp at what is being done)

This works (but not what I need)

gam create alias urafi user loren

And the alias is successfully created

Hi Loren,

  GAM is only supported on Google Apps for Business or Education. As you found, some GAM commands like "create alias" work with the Free Edition but other email setting API calls, like sendas are not supported by Free Edition and thus the GAM command fails.

I was afraid of that.
No big deal, it was only 4 users and I just logged into their accounts and changed the sendas manually.

Either way your tool is still awesome.
