Hi!

I am trying to make a list of Google groups that have no members and no messages posted. Is that possible?

I have a list of all groups that have no members, but those groups might contain messages and I would like to know if there's any. Too many groups to look the message count one by one.

Also a list of groups that have members, but no posted messages would be nice to get also.

Thanks

Is conversation history turned on for your group? If so, you can use Google Vault

gam print vaultcounts matter id:<vault matter id> corpus groups accounts <group name> scope all_data

Otherwise you will have to search in user's inboxes for received mail via their group membership.

gam csv groups.csv gam redirect csv ./~~email~~.csv multiprocess all users_ns print messages query "list:~~email~~" max_to_print 1

To get list of empty groups

Thanks! I will definitely test those commands. Yes, conversation history is turned on in the groups. But that particular Google workspace does not have Vault in use, so cannot use that. Or I need to configute the Vault in use first, if that helps.

Also note that just because a Group hasn’t had email sent to it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not in use. Groups can be used for many other purposes, like access to files/folders in Drive, Calendar event invitations, and so on.

In other words, there’s no really good way to tell that a Group isn’t in use anymore, and, IMHO at least, probably no real reason to bother trying to clean up unused ones.

Cheers,

Ian
