Whenever I try to run commands in gam (2.995 32bit Windows on Windows 7 x64 pro) on my group I get this message:

"Error 400: Permission denied: Cannot hide from Groups directory. - invalid"

I am trying to do this:

c:\>gam update group myg...@mydomain.com settings allow_external_members true
or
c:\>gam update group myg...@mydomain.com settings allow_web_posting false

I CAN do this, however:
c:\>gam info group myg...@mydomain.com settings
and it gives me the list of settings and the members.

Am I missing something?  Why won't the other commands work?

Ah, it seems to work okay in version 2.55, however.

Try removing SETTINGS from the commands - see the updated documentation for V3 beta https://code.google.com/p/google-apps-manager/wiki/GAM3GroupSettings

No, that doesn't work. (thanks for the link to the new docs; I didn't realize)
I get the same error with version 299.

c:\>gam update group myg...@mydomain.com allow_web_posting true

Error 400: Permission denied: Cannot hide from Groups directory. - invalid

try:

gam update group myg...@mydomain.com allow_web_posting true show_in_group_directory true

I believe this is a bug in the API if you're CPanel Group settings prevent hidden groups and the group is already hidden.
