...how do we find what the ID or alias is for a Classroom course, so that the ID/alias can be used in GAM commands?

There seems to be a major bug with Classrom at the moment in that individuals or groups can't be invited from the Classroom GUI - each user needs to be given the course code and self enrol, otherwise an error as shown on the attached screenshot is thrown - there are lots of reports of this around the web, and with the start of the new school year it is a major pain! I was hoping that perhaps GAM could be used to circumvent the problems.

Andy

Thanks for the reply Leurs, I just tried again and I admit it worked after it not working at all from Thursday to Sunday - it has definitely been giving a problem for quite a few people over several weeks!  e.g. see: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/google-education/OtHXPOnrxvw ...all's well that ends well...

But does anybody know an easy way to get the Classroom alias/ID?

Did you ever find a way to get the Classroom alias or ID? I'm having trouble with that as well.

You can use:

gam print courses todrive

to generate a Google Spreadsheet of all courses along with their IDs / Aliases. You can set a course alias during course creation with:

gam create course name "My Course" alias my-course

or after the course has been created, with:

gam update course 279042255 add alias another-alias

where 279042255 is the course ID or another existing alias for the course.

That works perfectly, thank you!

I actually came back here to report that I'd been given a solution for this from Google today. Jay's is easier by far and this being a GAM group the GAM solution is clearly the best answer, nevertheless, I'm here so I'm sharing the official Google solution as well.

Expand the Use fields editor link under fields and tick courses

Authorize and execute, wait for the churn and you will get the not-so-elegant version of what Jay's solution sends todrive.

Cheers.

Jay - I'm trying to change the courseGroupEmail and teacherGroupEmail values for one of our Google Classrooms. The teacher that created the class is no employed and the courseGroupEmail/teacherGroupEmail is using their name. Is there a way for me to change these values using the gam update course command? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks
