Does anyone have any suggestions on how to track AUE dates for their Chromebooks?
https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en
I was hoping to us GAM to update some field associated with each Chromebook so I can produce lists of devices meeting the AUE date.
I can do it by model name, but I'd like to have a date in the directory if possible.
Suggestions?

The challenge here is that:

is the only "source of truth" for AUE dates but the device names don't fully align with what is in the API / Admin console. Also, pulling the HTML and using that with GAM isn't terribly easy to do nor would it be reliable (HTML format changes, GAM breaks).

I'd suggest putting in a support ticket to Google asking that AUE be added to the admin console and API so that GAM can use it.

I was going to add it manually on my own... I was looking for a field to update for the time being.
I'll enter a ticket

I looked here:

And there is a "supportEndDate" but I don't see that anywhere else.

Bryan,

From the API documentation:
The final date the device will be supported. This is applicable only for those devices purchased directly from Google. The value is in ISO 8601 date and time format. The time is the complete date plus hours, minutes, and seconds in the form YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssTZD. For example, 2010-04-05T17:30:04+01:00.

Thanks Jay and Ross.
I've submitted a ticket to Google Support requesting the AUE date be added to the Admin Console.
I'll just keep Excel'ing it for the time being.

Just FYI... Google support says:

We just finished with our product engineers and they have indicated that the request has been added to the road map. No ETA has been provided. They have indicated that many clients have requested this feature. The request was submitted back on April 24. At this point I will be updating you monthly or as soon as we get new information from our product engineers. ”

OK, I poked around at this and came up with a way to parse the Google AUE help page, generate a list of devices and then do a rough match against the model reported by the API.

Bryan, try the latest code in the GAM repository (let me know which OS / download you use and I can share a binary with you if you need it). And you can run something like:

GAM_CSV_ROW_FILTER='{"guessedAUE": "date<2019-12-31"}' gam print cros model guess_aue

to get a CSV of all devices that will reach AUE by end of year.

By the way, the matching of API model against the AUE page model is likely not 100%. You should visually confirm the output is correct before taking some action like deprovisioning devices based on this output.

I *think* I see the field in the Admin Console now ... does that mean it'll soon be available in GAM? :)

PERFECT! I was trying to use the supportEndDate field, not the autoupdateexpiration field -- works great now! Thanks for the help... :) Derry

Ok... so for us n00bs, what would the full command be if, say, I wanted to export a Google Sheet that listed the AUE, Asset ID, Serial and OU for all of the devices in domain/Chromebooks and all child OUs?

I know this is wrong but how close am I?
gam csv gsheet cros fields autoupdateexsoration, serialnumber,AssetID,OrgUnit ou and children Chromebooks

-SD

With this in mind. What about if the devices you want are not Chromebooks, but Macs, Windows laptops, with the Model also?

Keep up the good work on GAM and update expiration. When you can create an auto updating Sheet with this information, it is great.

I have the same thing for my Windows devices pulling information from our software deployment server. Keeps you diligent on making sure systems are up to date and on Chromebooks helps you get some of the old ones out fast.

Yes, those do say 1970, it is a bug with the manufacturer that has not been fixed yet.

One thing to watch for is that I noticed when I did this, the report will pull ALL devices in your domain so I added status so that I could sort through whether it was active, disabled, or deprovisioned. You may be only wanting to track active devices.

Thanks, everyone (especially Ross!).

How would I convert the command to produce a Sheet in my drive instead of a CSV file?

Seth,

With Gabriel's suggestion you want:

gam cros_ou_and_children /Students print cros fields autoupdateexpiration, serialnumber, assetid, orgunitpath todrive

Thanks again, Ross. :)

I added a few whiz-bangs and gee-gaws... and now I have a single command which exports the following data to a Google Sheet in a Shared Drive folder of my specification:
  • Status
  • AUE
  • Serian Number
  • AssetID
  • OU
Here's the command:

gam cros_ou_and_children /Chromebooks print cros fields status,autoupdateexpiration,serialnumber,assetid,orgunitpath todrive tduser us...@domain.org tdparent <<folderID>> tdtitle CB_Info

In that example, I'm gathering data for all Chromebooks in the /Chromebooks OU (and all child OUs) and exporting it to a Sheet called CB_Info located in the Shared Drive folder specified by <<folderID>>. us...@domain.org must be a user with write-access to that folder.
