Hello,

I tried

gam update group <group1-mail> add manager delivery none <group2-mail>

I got this error:

Group: <group1-mail>, Add 1 Manager
Group: <group1-mail>, Member: <group2-mail>, Add Failed: Invalid
Input: memberKey

I don't understand this error message. What is the right command?

With a single email address instead of group2-mail it seems to work
correctly. But I need the whole group as manager.
I would like to achieve that only the users from group 2 can send mails
to group 1.

Thanks,
Micha

Micha,

A group can not be a manager or owner of another group.

Oops... And is it somehow possible to set differently that only the
members of group2 can write to group1, nobody else?

Dear Ross, maybe you could make the error message in GAM clearer, so
that it is more understandable...

I created a group called sourcegroupname-senders and then extract it and sync the members as managers which are configured to be allowed to post, but the groups API doesn't (to my knowledge) allow you to set posting permissions on a per user basis.

I wrote up a thing several years ago to explain how groups-within-groups work from the perspective of mail delivery, and thought it might be helpful in this context.

See How to use "Groups-within-Groups" in bConnected Lists

It’s a document written for folks here at UC Berkeley, so some terminology:
  • “bConnected Lists” = our implementation of Google Groups for Business
  • “CalGroups” = our implementation of the InCommon Grouper centralized group management tool
Cheers,

Ian
