Looker Studio report missing owner information

Hi, 

Probably not possible but hope you can help.

One of our users (user A) left the company and transferred a couple dashboards over to user B. User B had access while user A's account was disabled.
User A's account was deleted on the 20th, and user B has now reported losing access to both dashboards, 2 days after the account was deleted (they confirmed they had access on the 22nd).

I used gam report datastudio filter "ASSET_ID==<report_id>", although it looks like the owner email is missing (see screenshot). 

I have also checked both accounts with gam user <email> print datastudioassets and neither have the dashboard .

Is it possible to update the owner information or assign new editors/viewers to the asset, without the owner email? As far as I can see in the documentation, the gam command requires the owner's email.

Hi ,

I’m reaching out regarding a few Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio) dashboards that have become inaccessible after the deletion of their original owner.

Details:

  • Original Owner (deleted): [user A’s email]

  • New Intended Owner: [user B’s email]

  • Asset ID(s): a167xxxxxxxx 

  • Issue Summary:

    • The dashboards were transferred to user B before user A’s account was disabled.

    • User B retained access until two days after user A’s account was deleted (on [date]).

    • Currently, the dashboards no longer appear under either user’s account, and the OWNER_EMAIL field shows as blank in the GAM report output.

It appears the assets are now orphaned, as GAM cannot modify ownership or permissions without the original owner email.

Could you please assist in restoring ownership or reassigning the dashboards to user B ([user B’s email])?

I’ve attached the relevant GAM report output for your reference.

I don't see how GAM can help, you can;t make a new owner and the current owner is required.

Can user A be temporarily restored?

This is probably a Google support issue now.

Given this timing, it should be possible to restore user A's account and move forward.

Thanks both. I realised this is related to the data source so I've restored the user, though others have mentioned it can take up to 36 hours for it the reports to be accessible.
