Hi Diego,

Yes, this is a quota that currently applies to all GAM 3.0 users. I am working with Google to get the quota raised and will update this thread when I hear back from them.

Jay,

Thank you for staying on top of this.  Is there a break down of which gam command use what number of API calls?
Second question is there a method of check how many calls have been made by an account?

It looks like all of us using GAM 3 share a single daily API call quota. So
some days we might not hit the limit, but some days a particular user
resetting accounts for their entire domain (I am not going to name names)
might use up the quota until the next day.

In the meantime I am using GAM 2.55

Is there a way we can each apply for and use our own API key to insulate ourselves from this unreliability? I've been wanting to trial GAM for a week now and I haven't managed to get off a single complete request. Even "info domain" dies halfway through.

This is my first attempt at running the command, so it's possible that I"m doing something wrong, too.  Here's my command:

c:\(gamdirectory)>FOR /F %A IN (nameofcsv.csv) DO gam.exe update group myg...@mydomain.org udpate member user %A

I do the same, but using Powershell instead and I have no problems even with 3.01:

$list = Import-Csv googleusers.csv
foreach ($entry in $list)
  {
C:\GAM\gam update group __GROUPNAME__ add member $($entry.member)
  }
echo Done!
pause

The command can obviously be changed to whatever you need put into GAM.

Getting this 403 error currently on a new 3.01 install replacing a working 2.55.   I will probably need to reinstall 2.55 unless there is some workaround suggested to provide a quota scope that is tied to our specific apps domain rather than to all GAM users.  I also cannot understand why a Powershell script which fires off iterative GAM commands would somehow use less quota than running separate commands or files in a .BAT file created in Excel using the =concatenate string function...

I have taken to getting as much data as possible from GAM 2.55 and then using 3.0.x to fill the gapps (joke get it? gaps vs gapps) on the data I need returned.
I think if we as a community follow this practice it will help reduce the nuber of 403 issues until Google and Dito can work this out...

The issue I see in this idea is the group of GAM jobs that run in early morning unattended. The periodic message that appears reminding us to upgrade causes those to fail.

Do you suppose that reminder could be turned off until this problem is resolved?

Create a file called noupdatecheck.txt in the same directory as gam.exe or gam.py. This will turn off GAM's check for updates.

I'm doing straight batch scripting on the Command line -- using a CSV:

This is my first attempt at running the command, so it's possible that I"m doing something wrong, too.  Here's my command:

c:\(gamdirectory)>FOR /F %A IN (nameofcsv.csv) DO gam.exe update group myg...@mydomain.org udpate member user %A

Any chance I have something goofy going on?  Help!  I promised my users I could get these groups created quickly!  I can try Powershell next, but I know batch commands better than I know Powershell, so haven't really wanted to go there right now.

Hi Amy,

I think it's because you have 'update member' instead of 'add member'
c:\(gamdirectory)>FOR /F %A IN (nameofcsv.csv) DO gam.exe update group myg...@mydomain.org udpate member user %A

I didn't test your batch file but seems similar to ones I've written.
c:\(gamdirectory)>FOR /F %A IN (nameofcsv.csv) DO gam.exe update group myg...@mydomain.org add member user %A

Thanks

Chris

I'm getting the same error throughout the day today - Error 403 -- Daily Limit Exceeded.  I'm doing this with both 2.55 and 3.01 (I just have them installed in different directories).  I can run other GAM commands (print users, print cros) without problems.  it errors out on the first entry in the CSV file -- I just CTRL-C to stop it.

Is there a way we can each apply for and use our own API key to insulate ourselves from this unreliability? I've been wanting to trial GAM for a week now and I haven't managed to get off a single complete request. Even "info domain" dies halfway through.

In the meantime I am using GAM 2.55

If someone works out how to do this (acquiring and using your own API key), please post :)

I wish I could use this method however the tasks I'm trying to do now are new features in GAM 3 (the updated Groups API)

Has there been any update? I thought we ran our own API Key already for this?

Oooh, found this in the wiki: https://code.google.com/p/google-apps-manager/wiki/CreatingClientSecretsFile

I think before step 3 it should say to click the "Settings" tab in the left sidebar.

I had some trouble getting 1801 error messages on the outbound gateway part of "gam info domain" but when i unchecked, saved, rechecked, saved, it seems to have fixed that.

Congrats Steven, you found my (not so well hidden) Wiki article. I'll have an announcement with full instructions soon.

I had hoped not to need to do this (I feel like it shouldn't be a necessary step for users to setup their own key) but Google has only been able to provide incremental bumps to the quota and you guys have been over-running that on a regular basis.

Official Instructions for creating your own client_secrets.json are up at:

if you are making more than 1,000 GAM API calls / day or you are regularly getting the "403: Daily Limit Exceeded" error, I'd encourage you to follow the instructions to get your own project ID with a personal API quota.

I was getting the daily limit exceeded error this afternoon.

I followed the instructions on how to generate a new oauth token, etc and am now receiving a:

Google Apps Domain: noblecollegeprep.org
Error 403: Access Not Configured - accessNotConfigured

Error.

Any ideas? I just checked the provisioning API is enabled.
