Hi,

I have successfully used GAM to export a small mailbox as a test. But for some reason when I try to download a larger export, (10 files) I get an empty gpg file and then GAM seems to stop.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Here are the steps I've taken...

Request the mailbox export

 Request ID: 495023179
  User: us...@domain.come
  Status: COMPLETED
  Request Date: 2014-09-26 20:00
  Requested By: m...@domain.com
  Requested Parts: FULL_MESSAGE
  Request Filter: None
  Include Deleted: true
  Number Of Files: 10

OK, looks good to me so far... next, let's download

C:\Users\me\Desktop\gam-3.21-windows\gam>gam audit export download user 495023179
Downloading export-user-495023179-0.mbox.gpg (1 of 10)
Dito GAM 3.21
Jay Lee <j...@ditoweb.com>
Python 2.7.6 32-bit final
google-api-python-client 1.2
Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 x86
Path: C:\Users\me\Desktop\gam-3.21-windows\gam\

Usage: gam [OPTIONS]...

Dito GAM. Retrieve or set Google Apps domain,
user, group and alias settings. Exhaustive list of commands
can be found at: http://code.google.com/p/google-apps-manager/wiki

Examples:
gam info domain
gam create user jsmith firstname John lastname Smith password secretpass
gam update user jsmith suspended on
gam.exe update group announcements add member jsmith

This is where I find problems. On my original test export (the small one that worked) I got a message here saying it's been downloaded and I found a GPG file that had data in it. In this download attempt above, I only see the message above, and the GPG file I find is 0 bytes.... What gives???

Am I doing something wrong? I've googled all day looking for answers, but have found nothing that helped. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks
...

I'm seeing the same thing as of Friday. I thought my oauth may have been bad so I did a new install on a system and now can't get GAM to use the new client json properly. I just get redirected to a 401 error page when I attempt to run it the first time on any system.

Ok, so i was using 3.21 on Yosemite Beta originally.  Tried updating to 3.4, no luck.  Tried using a Windows 7 machine next to me with a fresh 3.4 install, no luck

Looks like the Google servers stopped returning the file size in the headers for some reason.

Can someone running the Python source version of GAM try the master trunk source and see if that solves the problem? Shouldn't be necessary to redo the audit, this version should just be able to download the existing completed audit files:

The size field obviously is unknown since googles not returning that.  but i successfully downloaded one audit in 2 files with the master zip you linked to.  170.9mb and 52.2mb

It looks like David had success with the master trunk source, but I won't pretend to understand. I tried loading Python and getting this to work in Windows and get errors, so I am hoping that you have an idea of how to fix this so I can export again?

On a Mac, i was able to simply copy the master over my existing GAM directory.  But i imagine the process isnt nearly that simple for the Windows side.  Im sorry im not sure how to help on that part of it.

I can confirm that using the zip above this has also resolved the problem for me.

Previously the problem existed in 3.4. The master.zip resolves.

Also on a Mac

I am not running the Python source so i cannot try this. But I can confirm the following.

  1. GAM 3.21 has this problem (win 8.1 x64)
  2. GAM 3.4 has this same problem (win 8.1 x64)
  3. I was able to work around it by doing the following.
    1. When you run the command "gam audit export status [user] [request id] you receive a notice of the number of files and corresponding urls
    2. copy and paste the urls into a browsers (im using chrome) and the files download without any trouble. (i have not tried to extract the contents yet but i have 4 large files now)

FYI, I've pushed out GAM 3.41 which should fix the download issue:

give it a shot and let me know if it solves or you're still seeing issues.

Out of curiosity, those of you doing audit exports, does this announcement from Google eliminate your need to use audit exports?

http://googleappsupdates.blogspot.com/2014/10/restore-deleted-drive-and-gmail-data.html

in other words, are you mostly using exports to restore user data or for other reasons?

At this moment I am only using the Audit Export to restore deleted data. IE: Rogue employee wanted to delete all mailbox items before they were let go or quit.

I have had a few instances where we need to perform an actual audit but for the most part it is restoring deleted mailbox items.

Im primarily doing audit exports to free up licensing as an alternative to Backupify or individually using TakeOut or something.  There might be a better way that i am open to, but thats just the first way i found as a new google admin, so ive stuck with it haha.

I need to use audit to comply with a legal request.  I downloaded 3.41 and am getting:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "gam.py", line 7405, in <module>
File "gam.py", line 6792, in doDownloadExportRequest
File "gam.py", line 695, in geturl

  File "urllib2.pyo", line 1222, in https_open
  File "urllib2.pyo", line 1184, in do_open
urllib2.URLError: <urlopen error Tunnel connection failed: 403 Forbidden>

I tried the direct URL trick mentioned above from the status command, I get the same sort of error there too:
Error code: ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED

The request and status commands and info domain all work as expected so I'm talking just not able to dl.  Any ideas would be most appreciated!
