Is it possible to use GAM to assign a specific license to users that are in a google group?  We dont want to assign this license to everyone in our staff OU due to the cost etc.

Zack,

Yes.
Here is the syntax:

gam <UserTypeEntity> create|add license <SKUID>

Typical values for <UserTypeEntity> are:
        (user <UserItem>)|
        (group <GroupItem)|

Yup! Check out https://github.com/taers232c/GAMADV-XTD3/wiki/Licenses#synchronize-licenses for the details.

And also see the message from me yesterday at https://groups.google.com/g/google-apps-manager/c/d9P9KesVcXs/m/WIPRcQ98AAAJ that talks about some really nice new enhancements that were just added.

Cheers,

Ian

Interesting didn't know this was an option.  We do already have quite a few licenses assigned that id like to clean up.  Is it best to just issue a command to list the current license assignments and then remove them?  At that point I can run the command to assign them based on the group members.

Old thread who dis?

I am looking to add licensing to a group of users using a csv. I have tried these commands:

gam csv licenses.csv gam update user ~username update licenses ~new_license

gam csv licenses.csv gam update user ~username add licenses ~new_license

Both result in a call out that add and update are incorrect syntax. What am I missing? THese are new licenses to be assigned. Some on the list may already be assigned but I don't recon that should hinder the command..

Respectfully,

See: https://github.com/taers232c/GAMADV-XTD3/wiki/Licenses#add-licenses

gam csv licenses.csv gam user ~username add licenses ~new_license

gam csv licenses.csv gam user ~username update licenses ~new_license from ~old_license

Thank you Ross,
The prompt calls out the syntax of add to be incorrect but I see that it IS in the context of update user.. Semantics.. LOL

Thanks again!
