Renaming Auto-generated Resource Name

Greetings all,

How does one rename Resource Calendars? The issue is that we have various admin assistants subscribing to Room calendars, and there seems no way to rename them something NORMAL when you are subscribed to them.

So they appear like:

My Great Highschool-1-Main Conference Room (10) 

in people's calendars. And it really should be just Main Conference Room.

Ideas?

It sounds like you're seeing the result of resource name display with Google's Structured Resources. I recently had to convert our resources from their legacy setup (i.e. pre Oct 17, 2017) to the structured resource setup, and the display of resource calendars when subscribed to them is one of the unfortunate side effects I saw. It drove what we called our building name (we only have one, so don't want to include it, but you can't omit it) to keep the number of wasted display characters to a minimum.

but I'll quote this part: 

With structured resource information, the Google naming convention becomes standard and is used to create autogenerated names from the individual resource fields. Autogenerated names are created when any resource field other than resource name, resource type, or description is updated.

• [building]-[floor] [room name] ([room capacity]) [Audio and video features]
• [(resource type)]-[building]-[floor]-[room name] ([room capacity]) [Audio and video features]

If you can get away with renaming the building(s) in the Admin Console > Directory > Buildings and Resources to something much shorter, you might be able to get your example down to something like "MGH-1-Main Conference Room (10)" and more of those characters will be visible in people's Google Calendar left columns, which are unfortunately not resizable.

This doesn't seem to change the generatedResourceName. That is what I want to change.

In the example I gave the generatedResourceName was changed.

Do this, what do you see?

gam info resource test

gam update resource test name "New Name"

I think the goal is to have it so if like an admin assistant wants to see what is going on in the room, and is subscribed to it in Calendar, it can appear something normal rather than this

Hi - Did you get anywhere on this question last month?  From everything I can see searching, the generatedResourceName cannot be updated to something less ugly, but maybe you guys found a trick?

you can just change the name in the calendar settings. Or what do you want to achieve?

Everywhere I tried to change it, the name kept reverting. Do you have a good method, Dino?
