Happy Friday! GAM7 is here! GAM7 is a new release of GAM which merges Ross ' and Jay's efforts into a single version of GAM going forward. No more confusion about which version / flavor of GAM you are running.

This release of GAM introduces a huge number of new features and capabilities if you are upgrading from Jay's Standard GAM including:

• Support for Google Chat API Admin actions just announced by Google! (Ross and Jay)
  
• Google Meet API support (Ross)
  

Note: admins who require the highest levels of stability may wish to wait a few weeks before upgrading from Jay's old version to GAM7 while any lingering issues are worked out.

I want to ask -- will both repositories remain or merged into one? I am maintaining gam and gamadv-xtd3 AUR packages for Archlinux and want to adjust the packages accordingly.

Going forward, GAM-team/gam should be the only repository you pull from. All binaries / releases on it are built by automated GitHub Actions and are attested as such by GitHub so you can know the GAM binary was generated by an automated process and ephemeral VM reducing risk of malware. I'm guessing you're using the source for the Archlinux package though so you should be fine just tracking GAM/team/gam release tags.

Ross does sometimes make special binary builds for old OSes or one-off situations so he may choose to keep his repository around and mirrored for those.

The next goal btw, is to implement automated signing of Mac and Windows GAM binaries / packages so admins don't see a bunch of "unknown file / malware" warnings they need to override just to use GAM. That's not going to be easy and signing generally has some $$ cost to it but we'll figure it out.

I downloaded GAM-7.00.002-windows-x86_64.msi and the nothing happens when I click on the installer.

So far, I have tried the following to no avail:

• rebooted
• downloaded the installer again (no change)
  
• tried another .msi installer (worked fine)
• removed all traces of GAM from the path variables
• added GAMCFGDIR variable (c:\GAMConfig) and created c:\GAMConfig
• uninstalled all versions of GAM
  
• created a c:\GAM7 directory

Does this mean we can remove our gamadv-xtd3 instance?  Or should we still be keeping that around?

Malwarebytes is reporting that GAM-7.00.02-WINDOWS-X86_64.ZIP contains malware:



It does not complain about the .msi file, although I can't execute that.

The two versions are build from identical code bases, you can delete the GAMADV-XYD3 instance.

Remember to update your gam alias (Linux/Mac) or System Path (Windows) to point to the GAM7 directory rather than GAMASV-XTD3.

No. If you install GAM7 in a new folder, you can delete the old GAM folder when you've verified that the new version is working.
