Hi all:

As you may have guessed by my question the other day about read-only GAM access, I’m working on setting it up to do some reporting (most immediately for our annual report, but hopefully later on for something more live and dashboard-like):

I’ve figured out how to do things like get how much space each user is using in Drive, how many Groups and Resource calendars we’ve got, and so on, but my boss was wondering if there was any way to get statistics about:

- classic Hangouts chat (the one that shows up embedded in Gmail)
- Hangouts Meet
- Hangouts Chat (the one at chat.google.com)

He’s wanting to know things roughly along the lines of how many people used each tool, how many chats/meetings there were, the average number of participants in a Meet meeting, the average length of a Meet meeting, and so on.

Essentially, the goal is to paint a picture for the higher-ups of how those tools are being leveraged by our users.

Is it possible to get at that sort of data using GAM? If it makes a difference, I’ve got GAM-ADVXTD3 installed.

Thanks much,

Ian

Thanks Ross! I’m heading out for the weekend, but will ping you next week if those don’t work out. Have a good one!

Hi Ross,

Thanks for that. It worked and as usual I started to see what else I could do, particularly for a single user. So I ran these 2 commands, but they only show outgoing sessions, so it is not possible to see who the session was connected to.

gam report meet user <User Email Address> todrive
gam report meet todrive
select <User Email Address>

Which makes sense, in a way as the field actor.email and identifier fields are blank for incoming sessions and these are the ones with our domain users email address in. It looks like sessions are linked with the conference_id field.

Is it possible to show a report for a single user and know who they were connected to? This is not urgent or needed, just me testing commands ahead of when I may need them.

As usual, I have recorded my commands here (https://sites.google.com/jis.edu.bn/gam-commands/services/meet), in case anyone interested.

Just to follow up on this. I reached out to the Google Docs Editors Help Community who helped with the Google Sheet functions needed to extract the users of a session and display them in a more convenient format. I have summarised this here https://sites.google.com/jis.edu.bn/gam-commands/services/meet#h.p_ZA145mTrCJ7Y.

The issue was that there was a row for each user in a session, so each 'unique' session ID had multiple rows. So by combining the results of a search for All Users with those for a single User, you can easily show the other users in the users sessions.

Hope this may be of use to others, not only for analysing Meet data.

James

Awesome! Thanks James!

All: does anyone know of any reports that might show any stats regarding the use of Hangouts Chat (and/or the older Hangouts IM function that’s built into Gmail)?

Cheers,

Ian
