Anybody know if you can get device battery level info? Volume and temperature etc aren't as valuable to me.

Battery level of what? Generally I believe the answer is no, no API to report battery level.

By device, I mean for Chromebook. Looks like I got my answer though. Thanks!

Yes, no way to do this afaik. Out of curiosity, what's your use case?

Student was reporting that his Chromebook wont turn on. Log says he's been on it every day, including today. Wanted to see last battery level to determine whether it just died.

@dbmct and Jay Lee, there is a similar thread, "ChromeBook Battery Status", that is making progress gathering this info using crostelemetry. Also somewhat related, I have several brand new ChromeBooks with no battery issues per se, however students have a similar complaint. So far I have determined that they allow their device to fully discharge, which puts it into "hibernation". When it comes to me, after the battery is charged sufficiently to startup the device, but still not turning on. I hold the refresh key and tap the power button. The device starts up, I then let it fully charge before returning it to the student. I am looking for a way to warn the student when the CB is hibernating. Or at least producing some documentation informing them on how to charge and bring the device out of hibernation.

What you are describing, "device requires a hard reset to power on" is likely a bug in the device's EC firmware. You may want to report the issue to the manufacturer although in my experience these issues aren't uncommon when the device has been allowed to completely drain the battery like when the battery was already low and then wasn't plugged into a charger for weeks. I've also found that these extremely low battery situations often align with school summer breaks and there are a lot more reports of these issues in August and September than there are mid-school year.

Where possible, I do recommend following Google's guidance for summer Chromebook storage. I'll let other EDU admins chime in as to whether or not they've found that process to be worth the logistical effort but I believe following the guidance will reduce (though not fully eliminate) Chromebook battery issues schools face.
