allow external senders by domain?

Can you think of any way of accomplishing this?

I need an affiliated external domain to be able to send messages to a google group.  They do not need access to any of the group content, just the ability to send mail to the group.  Essentially just a distribution list.

Any ideas?

You can turn on the setting to allow external members, then add the external email as a member.  After that you can turn off external addresses and they should still be able to post.  The caveat being as a group member they will be able to view the conversation threads.

gam update group <gr...@xxx.xxx> allowExternalMembers true

gam update group <gr...@xxx.xxx> add member mem...@example.com

gam update group <gr...@xxx.xxx> allowExternalMembers false

You can also set the external members delivery options to None so they don't receive any of the messages.

Ross;

Good point.

I have also noticed that with gam even if "allowExternalMembers" is off you can add external addresses.

Is there any way for me to allow external senders but create some sort of domain rule at the backend to block all senders except a list of domains?

I don't think this will work.

I need to define the restriction based on the destination address (i.e. the google group). If it is to a group I only want to allow a few external domains to send to it, but if it is to a user then all eternal email should be allowed to flow as usual.

Bassel,

Have you ever done a compliance rule to limit external email to a group? Do you have any examples you can share?

Yes you are right.

This won't work, and I have never set this up before.
