Collaborative Inbox Groups (CI Groups) are a great way to share an email address with a team / department and share the responsibility of reading and acting on received mail. Collaborative Inbox isn't a single setting for a group, it's a meta-setting that flips a bunch of other group settings to optimize the group for team-based collaboration (as opposed to a mailing list group or web forum group).

However, until now it's not been possible to create / set CI Groups via GAM because not all of the individual group settings that cover the larger meta-setting were exposed to the Google APIs. As of today, Google has exposed each of these settings so it's possible to create CI Groups from GAM.

This works with existing versions of GAM (latest 4.40 recommended) since GAM dynamically determines and sets group settings as new settings are added to the API. To create ord...@acme.com as a CI Group, the command would be:

gam create group ord...@acme.com whoCanEnterFreeFormTags ALL_MEMBERS whoCanMarkDuplicate ALL_MEMBERS whoCanJoin ALL_IN_DOMAIN_CAN_JOIN whoCanModifyTagsAndCategories ALL_MEMBERS whoCanMarkNoResponseNeeded ALL_MEMBERS whoCanUnmarkFavoriteReplyOnAnyTopic ALL_MEMBERS primaryLanguage en whoCanMarkFavoriteReplyOnOwnTopic ALL_MEMBERS whoCanViewMembership ALL_IN_DOMAIN_CAN_VIEW favoriteRepliesOnTop true whoCanMarkFavoriteReplyOnAnyTopic ALL_MEMBERS isArchived true whoCanAssignTopics ALL_MEMBERS sendMessageDenyNotification false whoCanUnassignTopic ALL_MEMBERS whoCanPostMessage ALL_IN_DOMAIN_CAN_POST whoCanTakeTopics ALL_MEMBERS whoCanAddReferences ALL_MEMBERS whoCanViewGroup ALL_IN_DOMAIN_CAN_VIEW showInGroupDirectory true allowGoogleCommunication true

Recognizing that is a really, really long command we'll work to add a single command that sets all CI group settings at once in the next version of GAM. However, you'll likely still want to tweak some of the settings yourself.

As always, give the new GAM Collaborative Inbox setings a try and let us know if you have questions or issues!

This is good news.  Have they possibly opened up any of the other group settings?  Delivery Options for instance?

Not that I'm aware but baby steps :-)

Awesome!
But, View email addresses still isn't exposed?

Hmm, PostAsGroup, isn't that something you would want also? (Not sure if that is the correct name for the setting.)

Is there a way to Identify all the Collaborative Inboxes that exist in the domain?

Basically you should be able to list all groups, and then query for one of the settings that are unique for CI groups.
But, I don't think there's a simple "gam print all CI groups".

This is usually where Ross steps in and says "hey, I just added that as an option to "gam print groups". :-)

Kim,

What I'm adding is the ability to print only those groups that match specific attributes.

Kendrick,

I've added an option in my Advanced Gam (https://github.com/taers232c/GAMADV-XTD) that should do what you want.

One of the CI Grpups attributes is whocanassigntopics, so the following command will print all groups where that attribute is not NONE.
gam print groups matchsetting not whocanassigntopics NONE

The matchsetting option can be used with any group setting:
gam print groups matchsetting not whocanassigntopics NONE matchsetting includeinglobaladdresslist true

This is exactly what I was looking for!  I recently posted a question regarding the same thing (worded it as "Shared Mailbox" though).  Thanks for the info!
