Groups not appearing in groups directory

Hi,

I've ran a script on GAM to update about 500 groups to show in Google Groups Directory (https://groups.google.com/a/google_apps_domain), and to make the membership viewable to all domain users. However, none of the groups edited by GAM is showing in the directory. If I edit a group setting without modifying anything and save the group settings again, the group starts to show up in the directory.

This is the output of GAM info group command from one of the groups.

Are you referring to getting the groups in the global address list / auto complete or are you talking about getting them listed at groups.google.com/a/yourdomain.com ? There are separate settings for these.

Hi Jay,

First of all, thank you for your reply. I'm referring to getting all of them listed at groups.google.com/a/myomain.com.

I think that I've done all the things right because as I said, if I edit any group settings and save without modifying anything, the group starts to appear.. It seems that something is missing on GAM to finish the modifications I did.

Hi Nuno,
I had the same issue last week, and found out that it can take up to 2 days to show the groups, actually it took 4 days in my case for 450 groups

Hi Samuel,

Thank you for your answer. Actually I find out that the group only appears if I edit (without modifying) the option "view members" (the equivalent to "who can view membership" GAM command), which is weird, because this option is not what it makes the groups to be listed in the groups directory right? I've made this change 6 days ago and I have 455 groups.

I don't know if both parameters are needed, I actually changed 3 things

- whoCanViewMembership: ALL_IN_DOMAIN_CAN_VIEW
- showInGroupDirectory: true
- add a description, with french caracters

showInGroupDirectory already setted for all groups. Added a description just to check but nothing changed.

This issue is now solved. The problem I was having was due to propagation time, a huge propagation time (8 days) :)

Just an update, not sure why in 'info group' this setting is still there with true/false.

Deprecated. This is merged into the whoCanDiscoverGroup setting. Allows the group to be visible in the Groups Directory. Possible values are:

• true: All groups in the account are listed in the Groups directory.
• false: All groups in the account are not listed in the directory.
