GAM Group Issues(HELP!!!)

Hello Group,

We are having a problem with our GAM. We have a script that does "gam update group <groupemail> add owner <groupemail>" This used to work  but now we get Error 400: Invalid Input: memberKey - invalid.

The purpose is to add a group as the owner of another group using gam.

This is very important in for us as it used to work till recently. Did something change at Google's end or are we doing something wrong?

We had a similar issue and discovered the ability to have a group as the owner of another group is being withdrawn. 

https://support.google.com/a/answer/167094 states "A Google Group cannot be the owner of another Google Group.". Despite this, it used to be possible to have a group as a group owner, but it looks like Google are closing that loophole - we opened a support case and received this answer "the ability to add a group as an owner of another group is being slowly deprecated as this should not be expected behavior since a group is technically not a user, it should not own any data."

I really hope this is not the case.  We have just launched dozens of mailing lists/groups using groups as owners for posting control.  I have posted this on the Google Apps for Work Connect forum to see if we can get some clarity.
