Remove contact from being suggested in Gmail

We have an old email group, that no longer exists, that still appears in the suggested contacts in people's Gmail when they begin typing "middle" or "middle school". 

There is a contact card for this account but the delete button is greyed out. I tried using:

gam user <myEmail> delete contacts emailmatchpattern <contactToDelete> 

but it still appears as a suggested contact. Any suggestions?

My version:

GAMADV-XTD3 6.00.01

Use : 
gam all users_ns clear contacts emailmatchpattern some...@gmail.com   (replace someemail with actual address).

Thank you James. We got the issue resolved yesterday. We ended up with gam ou_and_children "staff/middle school" delete contact query #middle
