In the past, I was prompted when a new version came out. I haven't received these prompts since upgrading to ADV-XTD.

I just ran the commands to upgrade to XTD3 (How to Upgrade from GAMADV X or GAMADV XTD)

Everything went fine. I checked the version and here is what I get.

GAMADV-XTD3 6.18.02

How do I get the latest updates automatically? I noticed it's up to 6.25.

Thanks!

Tammy

This will tell you whether you need to update:

If you're on MacOS or LInux, you can do:

Got it!! I was downloading and extracting the zip file (which wasn't working) when I needed to be running the msi.

Is there a way to do an auto check like I used to get when I would run any GAM commands?

Thank you -

You can easily schedule a check and update.

I created this script that I run manually, but you can it automatically, by adding it to cron and disabling the echos and more processes.

Oh, sorry, now I see you are running this on Windows.
If you don't need to run powershell to talk to your AD, I must recommend installing WSL on windows, to run gam in linux instead. It's just so more convenient.

However, Windows batch syntax isn't that different from bash, so perhaps you can do the same in Windows too? Maybe just edit the code a tiny bit?

Tammy, here's an update-gam.bat file for Windows.

I spent way too much time on this :-) but it was fun, and I learnt a lot.

On Windows 10 one can choose to use either powershell or tar to unpack the zip.
Just REM the one you don't want, and un-REM the one you want.
I use tar in the current version of the script. It works fine, and displays nothing.

Just like the Linux/macOS script, you have to comment out all echo and pause lines if you are going to schedule the updates.
when running the script manually, it's nice to be informed on what's going on, but even then you can REM unnecessary output.

Speaking of updating, I hate to admit that one of our GAM installations (Ubuntu) is woefully out-of-date (i.e. gamadv-xtd3 v4.93.00).  Given we'll soon be facing the legacy "out-of-band" OAUTH deprecation, does anyone know if there will be any trouble using the "regular' upgrade process to go from 4.93.00 to the latest version (6.24.xx) directly?

Upgrading GAM should be really simple. Backup the existing folder and then upgrade. If things go south restore the backed up folder and then figure out what failed.

Yeah, I've done long jumps before.
Usually never a problem.

I always run these three steps when I know something big has changed, or when moving gam to new devices.

gam update project
gam oauth create
gam user test.user check serviceaccount

Never had any issues.
The new authentication process, I feel, is quite easy. Got a bit scared when it was announced, but haven't had any problems with it.

Kim Thank you. Followed your steps in a Windows 11 machine.  It worked! Thank you.
