Error 400 Bad Request when attempting to remove a member from a group.

Greetings.

Using the latest version of GAM (2.994), when I attempt to remove a user from a particular group, I get this error:

gam update group students remove user f...@bar.edu
Error 400: Bad Request - badRequest - Giving up.

This is a Windows system. I am able to add users just fine. If I attempt to remove a user who has already been removed, sometimes I get the expected "Error 404: Resource Not Found: memberKey - notFound - Giving up." error, and sometimes I still get the one above.

Excuse my newness to your tool, and Google Groups in general - I am on my first project using it. Any insight on what might be going on would be helpful.

Create a file called debug.gam in the same folder as gam.exe / gam.py and post the debug output here (after removing the Authorization header).

Upon further investigation, this error seems to be associated with certain email addresses, and not others.

Here's a the output when attempting to process a list of problem email addresses (all of which were previously added with GAM):

and I've also filed an issue with Google Support describing the problem. They are aware of the bug and are working to fix it but have not given me a timeline.

If you are affected by this issue I suggest you both:

Star my question on StackOverflow.
Submit your own ticket to Google Support describing the API issue and providing links to this discussion as well as the StackOverflow question.

this should help Google get a scope of the number of users effected by the issue and set the priority for getting the fix in place.

I have been using your app, very nice. I want to migrate off the current gdata admin api for managing accounts which is deprecated. Thanks for writing GAM. I just had the same issue deleting users from a group. I just reported the issue to google.

Thank you for your message. I'll be taking care of your case. I understand that it appears with the new directory API you cannot remove a user who does not have an account in the domain.

I checked this information with our Google Group specialists and we're currently having an ongoing issue where you cannot remove a non-Google Apps user from a group via Directory API > Group Settings.

This issue is still under investigation and we don't have an estimated time on when this issue is going to be resolved/fix and I checked the link you added to the case and I see that there are some suggested workaround that might help you to resolve this issue momentarily. 

I will leave this case open for three business days. Please feel free to reply to this message if you have any questions or if you need further assistance.

I just got off the phone with Google Support. I have been working on them with the issue for a bit over a week now. The issue should now be fixed (I have tested using the Google API and GAM). Apparently, the permanent fix is coming soon, and this is a temporary fix.

That's great news. I've been having my GAM batch files email me any 400 error logs and going back to manually remove those accounts from my groups.
